ABOUT US
Founded in 1847, Zeta Psi strives to be the premier international men’s fraternal organization and is dedicated to encouraging academic excellence while forging lifelong bonds of brotherhood. Through participation and continual alumni outreach, Zeta Psi members are committed to the development of leadership, character and intellect as well as to the service of their brothers, their communities and mankind. Zeta Psi is an international fraternity and has active undergraduate chapters at the finest schools in the United States, Canada, England, Ireland and France. A unique and valuable sense of community stems from our intimate size that other fraternities with 100, 200 or even more chapters cannot match. This sense of real brotherhood is extremely valuable and it’s why we have such involved, lifelong alumni.
WHAT MAKES A ZETE?
Our brotherhood brings together men from many different walks of life into one family. We take a lot of pride in having a diverse roster of guys. Also known as Zetes, we are proud to continue sacred traditions and a life-long brotherhood dating back to the 1800s. Zetes come together to have fun and enjoy life, get the most out of college, better ourselves and form lifelong bonds of brotherhood. Despite all the fun that college brings, the main reason you came to Rutgers is to get an education with the goal of that translating to success in life. All of our brothers will attest that you get more than knowledge, experience and skill from Zeta Psi. Our goal is to help you graduate with the extra skills you need to succeed in life. The result: well-rounded and successful men with great memories, lifelong friends and some of the finest experiences you can have in college and beyond.
Our History
JUNE 1, 1847
Zeta Psi was founded by John Bradt Yates Sommers, William Henry Dayton, and John Moon Skillman at New York University (Phi)
November 24, 1848
Our chapter was forged at Rutgers University (Delta)
MAY 3, 1870
Zeta Psi is the first fraternity founded on the west coast at the Univ. of California, Berkeley (Iota)
MARCH 27, 1879
Zeta Psi becomes the first international fraternity with a chapter establishing at the University of Toronto (Theta Xi)
DECEMBER 19, 1889
Zeta Psi becomes the first and only fraternity to simultaneously have a chapter at every Ivy league school with the creation of the Yale chapter (Eta)
MAY 3, 2008
Zeta Psi becomes the first intercontinental fraternity at the prestigious Oxford University (Iota Omicron)
WHAT DO WE OFFER?
Zeta Psi gives our brothers a competitive edge for life. Zetes are leaders, both at school and in their communities. Many of our brothers hold executive or chair positions within our chapter as well as other organizations on campus. Our brothers are involved in club sports, cultural student organizations, and other student-led clubs. Being active at Rutgers University gives you an opportunity to learn many management skills which can be applied to the business world, to grow as leaders, and to find your individual strengths. All the while, you are being supported by our central office and staff, and local and regional alumni. We offer hands-on alumni and career mentoring, career opportunities, nine annual Leadership Training Institutes in three countries, scholarships, and more.
